Zakiya Jackson

Zakiya has been involved in community development and education for 15 years and has worked in public schools, non-profits and corporations. With a BA from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from Willamette University in Oregon, her studies have focused on human and organizational development, management and growth. She began her career as a pre-school teacher and social worker, which were foundational to her passion about holistic community health and transformation. Currently the Director of Partnerships for The Expectations Project, Zakiya helps faith-based organizations strategically get involved in education equity in order to close the achievement gap. Past experiences include working for the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative, Partners Worldwide and the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. Named one of the 33 Millennials leading the next generation of the Christian faith in Christianity Today's July/August 2014 cover article, Zakiya has also been engaged in church leadership as a high capacity volunteer since she was in college. Her currently volunteer activities include her roles as an advisor to the Finance Committee of the Christian Community Development Association and interim co-chair of the Women of Color in Justice Steering Committee. When not busy with church or work, you can find her live tweeting and writing as a cultural critic reflecting on faith, racial justice and personal development. Based in Washington D.C., Zakiya loves laughing with friends, playing with her nieces and nephews and traveling the country to visit family, especially Nashville and California.
