RACE AND… Framing the conversation on intersections with race
The most important political fact in America is that, in just a few decades, we will no longer be a white majority nation, but a majority of minorities. The milestone historical realities of that fundamental demographic shift are underneath everything else in American politics. Race is an intersectional issue in our political discourse today.
As Christians, our response to the changing demographics of America should be two-fold: a renewal of our baptism and a renewal of democracy.

THE ‘OTHER’: Where does race intersect with your area of focus and what are the implications?
Race is the common denominator that has fueled much of the injustice in our country, including injustices related to immigration, our criminal justice system, education, and a myriad of other issues. In this Summit session, we will investigate the intersections of otherness and race within multiple justice movements. We will examine the implications of these intersections with an eye toward understanding their impact on the internal capacities of our movements as well as our communities.

THE CHURCH: What are the unique assets and challenges the church faces as it confronts white privilege and establishes equitable systems and structures within communions?
Racism is a historical construct of idealized humanity. It deforms Christian understanding of Christ, of co-humanity, and of community. If the church is to be faithful to Christ, to teach and practice love of one another in a society still sick with racism, it (we) must be undone by the gospel. We must be re-calibrated to healthier norms that speak the language of Jesus and justice. In this Summit session, we will explore the challenges and assets the church brings to bear as it struggles to be undone—as it struggles to change the world
